The 2026 PGA Championship arrives at Aronimink Golf Club with as much anticipation as any major in recent memory. The famed Donald Ross layout returns to the PGA Championship rotation for the first time since 1962, and players are expecting a classic Northeastern test built more on precision, creativity, and nerve than sheer power. Recent restorations by architect Gil Hanse have restored Aronimink\u2019s sprawling bunkering, expanded greens, and strategic angles, creating a course that should reward elite iron play and short-game touch. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The biggest storyline entering the week centers on the continued battle at the top of men\u2019s golf between Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy. Scheffler arrives as the defending PGA champion and once again the betting favorite after another dominant run through the majors, while McIlroy comes in riding the momentum of consecutive Masters victories and renewed confidence after completing the career Grand Slam. McIlroy also has history at Aronimink, having shot a course-record 62 during the 2018 BMW Championship. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another major theme is the continuing presence of LIV Golf stars in the majors. Bryson DeChambeau, runner-up in each of the last two PGA Championships, enters with plenty of attention despite recent injury concerns, while Jon Rahm remains one of the sport\u2019s most dangerous all-around players. Tyrrell Hatton and Joaqu\u00edn Niemann add further depth to a LIV contingent eager to prove itself on golf\u2019s biggest stage after a lengthy major drought for the league. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beyond the favorites, the championship field is stacked with compelling contenders. Xander Schauffele continues searching for another major after his breakthrough victories in 2024, while Justin Thomas enters with questions surrounding his health but undeniable pedigree as a two-time PGA champion. Jordan Spieth once again chases the career Grand Slam, and Cameron Young has emerged as one of the hottest players in the world following multiple victories earlier in the season. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aronimink itself may end up being the star of the week. The par-70 layout stretches beyond 7,300 yards, but players and analysts alike believe the tournament will be decided on and around the greens. The course\u2019s \u201cturtleback\u201d Ross putting surfaces, deep bunker complexes, and punishing rough are expected to demand complete golf from whoever hopes to lift the Wanamaker Trophy on Sunday evening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 2026 PGA Championship field is made up of 156 players, featuring virtually all of the top-ranked golfers in the world according to the Official World Golf Ranking. Major champions, recent PGA Tour winners, Ryder Cup players, top PGA professionals, and leading international players all receive exemptions into the championship. The field is headlined by world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm, Xander Schauffele, Bryson DeChambeau, Viktor Hovland, Collin Morikawa, and Jordan Spieth, giving the tournament one of the strongest fields in golf. The PGA Championship also awards a full 100 OWGR points to the winner, matching the other three majors.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The entire 156-player field will be competing for a mega purse of $21 million, with the winner taking home $3.42 mil. There is a standard cut to the top 70 players including ties after 36 holes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Rory McIlroy – $12,800<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      I really wanted to put Scottie’s name here instead but the $1,200 difference in price tags is just too much. With that being said I will definitely have some Scottie in a the lineups where I can fit him because he is just as hot as Rory. You really can’t go wrong with either option this week and if you can fit both, well then more power to ya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Rory seems to be in the midst of playing the best golf of his career, especially when the big events and majors roll around. He remains one the elite ball strikers in the world and if he can just dial in his wedge game and avoid 3-putts on these tricky greens, McIlroy has a really good chance of winning another Wanamaker Trophy. \u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

      <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Cam Young – $11,600<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Breakout and hottest golfer on tour this season is by far Cam Young. His past 7 starts he’s recorded 6 top-10’s, including T3 at the Masters, a victory at The Players, and a 6-shot win at Doral just two weeks ago. He now comes to Aronimink which happens to be a great course fit for Cam, not to mention he grew up just a few hours away in upstate NY. Between his elite ball striking and his dialed in short game there is no reason why Cam Young can’t win here at Aronimink. Just to put things in comparison, in his past 24 rounds, Young is gaining 0.93 strokes per round combined in SG around the green and SG putting. He also ranks second on tour behind only Scottie in SG on difficult par 4s over the past year. With Aronimink featuring two additional par 4’s rather than the standard par-72 setup, that could be a huge advantage for Cam in search of his first ever major.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Bryson DeChambeau – $11,400<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      I’m ready to get hurt again… I can’t lie, it’s really hard to go back to Bryson after he let us down at the Masters last month but his PGA Championship track record holds its own. He’s finished T4 or better in four of the last five years and for what its worth, his short game looked much improved last week on LIV. He will have a lot to prove this week and a chip on his shoulder after missing the cut at Augusta. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Tommy Fleetwood – $10,800<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Coming off a T5 at Quail Hollow last week, Tommy Fleetwood is as safe of an option as you can find. Just a quality golfer who has now turned in 5 top-10 finishes so far this season and has yet to miss a cut. What stands out even more is Tommy has gained strokes on the greens in 4 straight events now. Fleetwood finished off last year with terrific putting and if he keeps it up, he should have no problem dishing out a few more top-10’s. Speaking of top-10s at Aronimink… Tommy finished T8 here back in 2018. Sold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Justin Rose – 10,500<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      At first take, I looked right past Justin Rose’s name and kept scrolling… but then I realized his track record at the PGA Championship and had to triple check that I was reading it correctly. Rose has 7 top-10s and 13 top-25s in this event, and has finished T13 or better in five of the last six years. Also important to note, Rose has the best record here at Aronimink of any player in the field, finished T15 here in 2011, lost in a playoff and finished 2nd here in 2018, and WON here in 2010… uhh you think Justin likes this course? The only thing that would make this play better is low ownership, which is likely since Rose has struggled his last two starts, but I have a feeling the 45-year old veteran will figure it out and be ready at a course he knows and feels comfortable. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Rickie Fowler – $9,400<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Tricky Rickie almost fucked around and won the Truist Championship last week but instead settled for T2. Fowler has low key been killing it recently, turning in a T8, T9, and runner up finish his last 3 starts. During those starts he shot under par 10 out 12 rounds and stayed hot with his short game, gaining strokes on approach and putting . Maybe just missing the field to be able to contend in this years Masters has fueled Rickie to get back to playing championship golf, and we love seeing old spurts Slick Rick. In his 3 starts here at Aronimink, he has improved each time with the results MC, T15, and T8. Rickie ranks 10th among the field in strokes gained per round at Aronimink and for the season ranks 3rd in par-4 performance behind Scottie and Cam Young and 12th in SG putting, both crucial at Aronimink. That’s enough to sell us. Let’s go Rick! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Voted best dressed in high school, Jason Day now excels his fashion on the golf course. Can’t wait to see what he’s got in the wardrobe this week, but besides his style the PGA Championship always seems to bring the best out of Jason Day. He has 5 top-10s in the past 11 years as well as his only major win coming at the PGA. Day looked sharp on and off the course at Augusta, gaining strokes in all four major stat categories. Jason Day also continues to be the best on tour while playing out of the sand, and while the 178 bunkers at Aronimink taunt most that play, Jason embraces it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      JJ Spaun – $9,000<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Last time a major was held in the state of Pennsylvania, JJ won, and although Oakmont is a way different course than Aronimink, JJ’s game actually aligns better here. Spaun has been heating up just at the right time too, picking up momentum finishing T14 at the Cadillac and T5 last week at the Truist, and a win at the Valero Texas Open, JJ is back to thriving and driving it straight. But its been his iron and approach play that has propelled him recently, gaining strokes on approach shots in 8 straight starts. If he can put like he did at Oakmont, JJ might just get his 2nd major in 2 years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Keegan Bradley – $8,800<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      A previous winner here at Aronimink, you’re not going to find a safer option before $9k. After some early struggles this season, Keegan is starting to find something and trend in the right direction. He’s one of the best putters on courses in the Northeast and if he can manage to keep his wedges in distance there’s no reason we can’t see his name on the Wanamaker Trophy again. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
